RNS deepens cooperation with the University of Malaya, a top-three Southeast Asian university

Tallinn University of Technology (TUT) and the University of Malaya (UM) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that formalizes and boosts their cooperation.

The MoU is carried by UM’s Faculty of Economics and Administration and TUT’s Faculty of Social Sciences, which have successfully cooperated already during the past year. According to the 2014 QS rankings, the University of Malaya is one of the top three universities of South-East Asia, or the ASEAN countries, an area of special interest and focus for TUT Ragnar Nurkse School of Innovation and Governance (RNS). Both institutions share the – otherwise rather special – focus on both Public Management and Innovation Policy, which allows the development of research projects and other common undertakings.

This has been true on the individual level as well. Prof. Raja Rasiah from UM (currently at Harvard) is a founding member of the RNS’s Technology Governance program. Prof. Wolfgang Drechsler from TUT RNS was a Visiting Professor at UM during part of the Fall Term 2013/14. And in Spring Term 2015, Prof. Datuk Norma Binti Mansor will hold the Ragnar Nurkse Visiting Professorship in Development Policy at TUT RNS.

“This MOU is an excellent opportunity for us to strengthen our contacts with UM, an ideal partner for us both because of its great profile and people and because of its perfect location and context,” says Prof. Drechsler, who also serves as Vice Dean of International Relations of the TUT Faculty of Social Sciences. Cooperation is envisaged to take place especially on the level of faculty and PhD student exchange and of research and publication, but undergraduate and MA-level exchange is also possible.

For enquiries please contact Andreas Sepp (RNS International Relations Coordinator) or Prof. Wolfgang Drechsler (Vice Dean of International Relations of the TUT Faculty of Social Sciences).
