RNS graduate received prestigious PhD award
Dr. Jane Järvalt’s PhD thesis defended at Ragnar Nurkse School of Innovation and Governance has won the NISPAcee (the network of institutes and schools of Public Administration in Central and Eastern Europe) PhD thesis competition.
Dr. Järvalt’s thesis was selected on the basis of its contribution to public administration and public policy, innovativeness of the PhD thesis as well as the relevance of the conducted research for NISPAcee region. She defended her thesis „Strategic Human Resource Management in the Public Service: Evidence from Estonia and Other Central and Eastern European Countries“ in RNS in July 2012. Her supervisor was Professor Dr. Tiina Randma-Liiv, Chair of Public Management and Policy and Vice Dean for Research and Academic Affairs of the TUT Faculty of Social Sciences and opponents were Professor Jan-Hinrik Meyer-Sahling (University of Nottingham) and Professor Patrycja Johanna Suwaj (University of Bialystok).
The award is named after Mzia Mikeladze (1961-2012), a longtime President of NISPAcee in recognition of her contributions to the discipline, profession, and the organization of network. Jane Järvalt is the first ever winner of this award.
The award ceremony was held during the NISPAcee Annual Conference in Belgrade, Serbia during opening plenary session on May 16, 2013. As the winner Dr. Järvalt got a possibility to publish the overview of her dissertation in the NISPAcee journal.
The core of the NISPAcee activities is to promote the development of public administration disciplines and training programmes in post-Communist countries. Several RNS scientists have participated in the work of its various committees including the Head of RNS’ PhD Programme Dr. Ringa Raudla, who currently serves in the NISPAcee Steering Committee.
