Professor Rainer Kattel, Director of the Department of Public Administration and Visiting Professor at the National Institute for Science and Technology in Public Policies, Strategies and Development (INCT-PPED) recently returned from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where gave a seminar entitled „Public Management, Policy Capacity and Innovation“.
The 3-part seminar had the following themes: „Seminar I. Defining policy capacity, policy cycle and public management analytical toolbox“, „Seminar II. Public sector reform and its impact on economic and innovation policy: from Weberian bureaucracy to Neo-Weberian State“ and „Lecture III. Using the public management toolbox to analyze policy capacity and innovation: Examples of evolution of policy capacity in Eastern Europe, East Asia and Latin America.“
During his stay at INCT-PPED, Professor Kattel also gave a special lecture on the Baltic states’ economies during the crisis of 2008-2010.
INCT-PPED belongs to the PPED Program (Institute of Economics, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) at IESC (State University of Rio de Janeiro) and participates as a member of MINDS Board. MINDS (Multidisciplinary Institute for Development and Strategies) is a network focusing on historical analysis, economic sociology, institutional, evolutionary and Post-Keynesian economics. DPA’s Professor Jan A. Kregel serves as its president and Professor Kattel is a board member.
