Ringa Raudla’s and Rainer Kattel’s article on Estonia’s fiscal policy was named the best research article in the field of social sciences published by Tallinn University of Technology scholars within the year 2011.
Dr. Ringa Raudla, senior research fellow at the Department of Public Administration (DPA), and Dr. Professor Rainer Kattel, the Director of DPA, published their article titled “Why Did Estonia Choose Fiscal Retrenchment after the 2008 Crisis?“ in Cambridge Journal of Public Policy. The article explains why the Estonian government opted for fiscal consolidation during the crisis, arguing that the key to understanding Estonia's fiscal decisions in 2009 is what happened in the 1990s: fiscal policy choices became path-dependent as a result of positive feedback loops from previous periods of fiscal consolidation.
The award was handed over on February 22nd at TUT main hall during traditional Independence Day celebrations, where university’s best scientists, lecturers and authors of research articles were honored. The complete list of award recipients is available here (in Estonian only).
