Prof. Kattel's presentation at the UN General Assembly session
Professor Rainer Kattel participated in the informal preparatory sessions of Third International Conference on Financing for Development (to be held in Addis Ababa in July 2015) at the UN General Assembly in New York on 10-13 November 2014 and shared his expertise on public procurement as development finance.
In his presentation (summarized on p. 8) he emphasized the importance of public funding for development via innovation. In that regard, procurement is an important source of funding for the private sector as well as a way of diffusing technologies. Prof. Kattel explained that thinking on procurement was shifting from a focus sole on the efficient use of resources and stopping corruption, to also considering innovation and new technology.
