Prof. Krimmer's new book on e-voting available to download

"In September 2014, a small group of interested people met upon invitation from International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), an organization working on human rights and democracy, in Stockholm for a 4 day Book Sprint to write a book on the use of open source technologies in elections.

The now available book The Use of Open Source Technology in Election Administration focuses on elections and how the use of information technology makes it harder for the general public to understand how it works. In particular the problem of outsourcing democracy to private companies becomes an increasingly worrying problem. One answer elaborated in this book is to use publicly verifiable software, i.e. that is released as open source technology.

In the core part of the book, RNS professor Robert Krimmer’s contextual model, the e-voting mirabilis, is discussed more in detail. It is a multidimensional model, that involves the actors involved in elections such as election administrators and voters, as well as the political, legal, technical and social environment where an election takes place.

The electoral process is described and analyzed in the book using the definition from paragraph 25 of the International Covenant on Civic and Political Rights. The book itself – Clouser, M., Krimmer, R., Nore, H., Schürmann, C., Wolf, P. (2014): The Use of Open Source Technology in Election Administration, International IDEA – can be downloaded for free here."
